POLICE INCIDENT REPORT
Monday 22nd February 2010.
Credit card - attempted fraud via telephone
A householder was called on Saturday 20th February with an offer to reduce the interest payments on her credit cards. The caller asked for and was given credit card details. Moments later, the householder, feeling concerned about what had happened, called her credit card company and cancelled her credit cards. The original caller rang back five minutes later and was extremely "short" with her for having cancelled her cards, which he'd obviously already tried to access. BE WARNED - ANY BUSINESS YOU DO CONCERNING YOUR BANK OR CREDIT CARDS SHOULD ONLY BE WITH REPUTABLE COMPANIES WHO YOU KNOW AND TRUST, AND NEVER OVER THE TELEPHONE UNLESS YOU CALLED THEM FIRST!!!
Overnight thefts from motor vehicles - February 2010,
Police are advising motorists to remove tools and other valuable items from their vehicles following a number of overnight thefts from vehicles parked on driveways in Stebbing, Takely and Dunmow during February, 2010.
Peter Caulfield, Crime Reduction Advisor for Uttlesford district, said: "Essex Police advises motorists always to keep your doors and the boot locked, and to close the windows of your vehicle. If you have tools in your vehicle, please try to remove them before leaving your vehicle unattended. It is also worth considering investing in a van safe, and fitting deadlocks to the rear door of your van. One other practical measure that drivers can take is to reverse their van up a wall or other structure, so that the rear door is not accessible to thieves.
"Leaving property and valuables on display can also provide a temptation to a thief. Any type of property that is on display is vulnerable: satellite navigation systems, laptops, phones, bags, money, CDs and radios. If property is visible in an unattended vehicle a thief can quickly break the window and steal it.
"Members of the public who would like further crime prevention advice and information are welcome to call me on 0300 3334444."
Police are appealing for anyone with information about these crimes to contact officers at Dunmow or Saffron Walden on 0300 3334444, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Goddard Way, Saffron Walden 3.50am Sat 20th February
A red Peugeot 306 was damaged when its windscreen was smashed with a wooden baseball bat. The broken bat was found in the road later. If you saw or heard anything suspicious around this time, please get in touch.
Rogers End, Ashdon - Shed burglary 18-19th Feb
Person/s unknown entered an insecure shed in Ashdon and stole various tools from within. We'd advise that garden sheds are kept locked at all times. You could also consider fitting a motion sensitive alarm. These can be bought cheaply from DIY stores nowadays (often from around £10) and are battery operated so that no wiring is required.
If you see any suspicious or unusual activity around your neighbourhood or have any information which you think might be of help, please call Essex Police on 0300 333 4444.
