Recycling, and hard and green waste

The Uttlesford District Council believes strongly in the recycling of household waste.  Three bins are provided to cover most types.  The brown bin is for food waste, and is collected every week. The green bin is for recyclables (plastics, paper, tin etc), and is collected every second week.  The black bin is for non-recyclables and is collected every second week, alternating with the green bin.

Hardcore and glass are not collected routinely. There are glass collection bins in the Fallowden Lane carpark at the Church end of the village.  When using them, please be aware of the time of day, so as to minimise the disturbance to neighbours!

On each Sunday morning, a truck is parked in that same Fallowden Lane carpark, for garden waste. The schedule is "10:45 - 11:45, every Sunday, until late November".

The skip for hard waste, again in the Falloden Lane carpark, is scheduled for 08:00 - 11:30 Saturday 23rd May 2009 and the same time Saturday 24th October, 2009.

The Rose and Crown Public House

Originally a 17th century coaching inn and according to some, patronised by Cromwell no less, the Rose and Crown has survived nearly 4 centuries to become the last remaining pub in Ashdon.

It's located in the very centre of the village, and is a Grade II listed building with exposed original timbers and a portion of wall in the Cromwell Lounge covered in 17th century paintings.  It even has its very own ghost!

The pub offers a full range of real ale, lager, wine and spirits.  There is a main bar with inglenook fireplace, a family room where people can dine, and the Cromwell lounge with pool table and dart board.
